About our Programs
Grades 2-3 Boys and Girls
This program is open to all boys and girls in grades 2
and 3. Teams are co-ed with a maximum number of 8
players. Teams are typically developed based on
peer/friendship/school-based relationships. The program
runs on Thursday evenings with a format of a 30 minute
practice followed by a 45 minute game. Gym practice
times and space are shared by the two teams that are set
to play against each other that evening. Games are
played 4 on 4 and officiated by student referees who are
always present and aid the players in learning the rules
during game action. There is no score keeping at this
level. The main goal of the grades 2-3 program is to
provide children with positive, fun experiences through
basketball. All players will receive equal playing time.

Grades 4-5 Boys
A skills and drills session is held with all players
prior to the start of the season to develop balanced
teams. Team performances are assessed at the beginning
of the season and players will be moved to ensure all
teams have an equal opportunity to win each week. All
players will receive equal playing time.
There is a one hour practice each week and practice
times are scheduled throughout the week at various
schools depending of the availability of the volunteer
coach and gym location. Games are always on Sunday at
Rockridge Secondary School and officiated by student
referees with a minimum of 2 years experience. Game
scores are tracked to provide an element of friendly
competition while still retaining the league’s
philosophy of creating a positive and fun environment.
